About Me
My name is Kinleigh Freeman and I am a senior at Mountain Brook High School. I am a Multimedia Journalist and a 3-year member of Spartan 2 News, Mountain Brook High School's student-run news team. Throughout my time on Spartan 2 News, I have gained real-world experience such as producing live shows, being the halftime reporter for the school's football team, and guest anchoring on our local news station. I have been able to hone my reporting skills by making news packages highlighting current events in both my community and school.
My Story: A Personal Narrative
When all the other girls were Disney princesses and butterflies for Halloween, I grabbed my mic and dressed up as my favorite ESPN news anchor. When all of my friends were bragging about the new Playstations and iPhones they received for Christmas, I was jazzed about my Adobe subscription. And when my fellow classmates were signing up for easy electives like Art of Cinema or Draw and Paint, I challenged myself to go against the grain and take on Spartan 2 News.
Little did I know how much work was involved in choosing the road less traveled. Adobe software, Gaussian blur, preview DDR 1: words that may seem like gibberish to most, but have quickly become a part of my everyday routine. These broadcast tools began to open doors for me that I never knew existed. From recording and editing athletic highlights for my friends to becoming the halftime reporter for my high school’s football team, I have gained real-world experience that has taken a childhood dream and transformed it into a tangible reality.
I am proud to say that my name has become synonymous with Spartan 2 News, and I take heart in the fact that I have the opportunity to be a part of something bigger than myself. Furthermore, nothing has been more rewarding than seeing my team’s hard work come to fruition on each show day. Getting to see the new members who join our team each year learn the ropes of something that has become immensely important to me is a reminder that although my time on Spartan 2 News is temporary, I have the ability to leave a lasting impact.
